In the heart of Melbourne is Centre Place, a laneway situated between Collins Street and Flinders Street. Originally named Cummings Alley, the lane was chosen to be part of a state government initiative aimed to revitalise the many laneways of Melbourne in the mid 1980’s.
The program aimed to preserve and rebuild many of the famous laneways in Melbourne, this plan attracted the now famous boutique stores and cafes found in the laneway. Nowadays the laneway is a popular destination for shoppers and diners interested in a unique experience, as well as a somewhat well-known tourist attraction as part of the many famous laneways in Melbourne.
