British heavy metal legends Girlschool performed at The Croxton in Melbourne on Saturday 29 June 2019 as part of their first ever Australian Tour. Girlschool is the world’s longest-running all-female rock band, still active after more than 40 years – they formed in 1978 during the new wave of British heavy metal scene (NWOBHM).
Three original members are still in the band: Kim McAuliffe on lead vocals and guitar, Enid Williams on bass, and Denise Dufort on drums, along with long-serving guitarist Jackie Chambers. Girlchool is frequently associated with their contemporaries Motörhead, and just like The Runaways before them, they’re seen as a band that helped pave the way to the presence of women in rock music.
