It’s been a long time between drinks for RUN RABBIT RUN but great things take time. Since their stellar 2014 single, Down The Line and toe tapping 2015 release Wasted In The Sun, RUN RABBIT RUN have been slowly marinating a batch of flavorsome new songs for their forthcoming highly anticipated debut EP BLOODLINE and it is well worth the wait.
WE DON’T KNOW is the first taste from their EP and it is dense, dark, and raw. The thumping drums and unsettling organ drones dredge up an eerie tension that eventually erupts into a chaotic, gnarled mash of distortion and noise. A sonic departure from the band’s folky roots, the tune retains their strong bluegrass/country influences with driving banjo and rich vocal harmonies while taking further steps beyond the genre, few are brave enough to take.

The music of Melbourne based Run Rabbit Run is a reflective journey through the minds of dual-front men Casey Martin & Michael Roberts. Best described as Progressive Folk Rock, the bands sound teeters and sways between sombre, unassuming folk, raucous fast-paced country, and often leans into the realm of atmospheric and climactic prog-rock. [pullquote]“Their music reminded me of the oncoming winter ahead and I felt like we were transported to a dusty old pub somewhere in the United Kingdom” – Nikita Vout, Raindrops & Rooftops[/pullquote] Citing artists such as Noah & The Whale, Hey Rosetta, and Fleet Foxes as influences, Run Rabbit Run were born in late 2011 out of a passion for the subtlety and honesty that folk music breathes. Deriving their name from lyrics in the opening track of Pink Floyd’s iconic Dark Side of the Moon, the band quickly set themselves apart with highly energetic, infectious live performances and an onslaught of alluring instrumentation. Run Rabbit Run are now preparing for the release of their debut EP, Bloodline. The first single, We Don’t Know, distinguishes itself as a darker departure from the band’s previous stand-alone single releases. Exploring the crushing feeling of losing familiarity with one’s emotions; We Don’t Know is dense and raw. The EP title, Bloodline, references lyrics from the closing track, Lights; “I’m tied to my bloodline, it pulls and oh it confines.” The lyrics reflect upon our connection to our past, of familial ties, and the apparent inability to ever gain true independence from our makers.
