Scene News: Rockers BLACK STONE CHERRY announce the release of FAMILY TREE on 20th April.

Family comes first—you never forget who was there with you from the start. The Edmonton, Kentucky-based rock quartet BLACK STONE CHERRY was raised on musical forefathers such as Cream, Led Zeppelin, Muddy Waters, and the Faces, among other 1970s staples. With their new LP Family Tree BSC salute their classic rock heritage and honour its legacy with a beast of a Southern Rock album.

Family Tree will be released on 20th April via Mascot Label Group’s Mascot Records. Burnin’, the first taste from the new collection of songs is available today, along with the ability to pre-order the release in physical and digital formats here.

Family Tree is the follow up to 2016’s Kentucky, which debuted at #5 on the UK Album Chart, reached Top 40 in the US and achieved the band’s highest ever charting positions across Europe. The strong response to Kentucky saw Black Stone Cherryspend most of 2016/2017 touring internationally, including their first two trips to Australia.

With all that time on the road, it’s a good thing that the concept of family looms large in the world of this band. Sticksman John Fred Young’s father Richard and his uncle Fred, are founding members of the Grammy Award-winning country rock n’ roots band, The Kentucky HeadHunters. Young, plus Chris Robertson, Ben Wells and Jon Lawhon – grew up together honing their craft throughout their teenage years in the Headhunters’ Practice House, an abandoned property on the Young family’s farmland.

John Fred says, “We grew up in the Kentucky Headhunters’ rehearsal space, looking up at posters of Cream, Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, the Stones, Montrose, and the Faces. We were like kids someone took in a time capsule and put in the woods”.

“We caught divine intervention with this one,” guitarist Ben Wells says with a good chuckle. “We hit a creative spark and tapped into a spirit and a fire we hadn’t before.” John Fred adds: “Family Tree showcases all of our collective musical influences and how we have taken those to create something that is truly our own unique Southern American Rock ‘N Roll Sound.”

Black Stone Cherry look to have another hectic year ahead, with a large European tour already booked, including an appearance at Download Festival UK and no doubt a heap of shows yet to be announced in North America. Here’s hoping another visit to Australia is also on the cards; but until then, be sure to get your hands on Family Tree.
