Scene News: Phil Wiggins & Dom Turner

Returning to the stage as a duo after performing a series of highly successful concerts on the east coast of USA last June, Phil Wiggins and Dom Turner join forces together again for Australian audiences to witness their unique blend of Piedmont, Delta, & Hill Country blues commencing with the Blue Mountains Folk Festival and ending with Bluesfest in Byron Bay throughout March and April.

America’s foremost harmonica virtuoso Phil Wiggins is no stranger to Australian shores nor to blues enthusiasts as he toured here extensively in the 1990s as one half of the Piedmont Blues duo Cephas & Wiggins tours that are now legendary in the minds of Australian blues enthusiasts.

Guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, Dom Turner needs little introduction as one of this country’s most treasured blues icons having played in the legendary blues act Backsliders for almost three decades.

The two bond over legendary blues musicians such as Leadbelly, Skip James and Robert Johnson and are aptly described as “..a brilliant coming together of two styles of the blues.

There’s something quite spellbinding about watching two performers hitting the stage who have the utmost respect for each other’s musicality and seek each other out to tour, even though they don’t live in the same country. In October 2014 Phil was invited to the Great Southern Blues Festival in Narooma NSW to perform with Dom in their first Australian concert together. They enjoyed it so much they are keen to do it all over again in a series of gigs including Blue Mountains Folk Festival on 14th and 15th March, Kinema in Narooma on 21st March, Caravan Music Club in Melbourne on Fri 27th March, Piping Hot Chicken Shop in Ocean Grove on 28th March, Lizotte’s Newcastle on 2nd April and finishing up at Bluesfest in Byron Bay on 4th and 5th April.

The duo will be playing songs off their debut album entitled Owing The Devil A Day’s Work, due for Australian release to coincide with the tour, and available through Rocket Distribution and iTunes.

Be sure to catch Phil Wiggins & Dom Turner as they perform a series of rare gigs around Australia and weave their blues magic for old and new fans alike.
