Pesky Bones releases new single and video, ‘My Radiance’ featuring Ali Barter
Lifted from Pesky Bones Volume One, which also features guest vocalists Paul Kelly, Deborah Conway, Tim Rogers, Paul Capsis, Emily Lubitz and more
My Radiance is a new single and video featuring Triple J favourite, Ali Barter from Pesky Bones. Pesky Bones is the artist name for Boom Crash Opera songwriter Peter Farnan.
Pesky Bones Volume One, released late last year, consists of songs written and produced by Farnan and sung by a crop of leading Australian recording and theatre artists.
Farnan says of My Radiance ‘while the album traverses many styles, this song pushes rock to the fore – it’s “do not go gentle – burn brightly” stuff; absolutely perfect for the edgy beauty of Ali’s voice’.
My Radiance follows the first single released from the album, Now That Our Babies Have Grown featuring Paul Kelly and Rebecca Barnard on vocals.
Farnan says of the energised sound of My Radiance; ‘I was listening to Kraut rock from the 1970s. I love the way it hypnotises you – it just ploughs on with the same minimalist riff. At the same time it relentlessly drives towards peaks and crescendos.’
My Radiance has been edited for single release. Says Farnan ‘The album version has a one-take guitar solo. For the single release I wanted to throw focus onto Ali’s voice.’
Farnan says of Ali Barter ‘she is insanely musical; able to pick up melodic nuances in a flash. I pitched a few songs at Ali but in my heart I knew this was the one for her – it’s combination of beauty and rawness. She’s got this slight edgy distortion in her voice, plus an uncanny ability to pin a melody and hit those high notes.’
The video, also produced by Farnan, is a mash up of images. ‘I’ve gone for a collision of technology and nature. Ali keeps appearing like an apparition amongst a swirl of solar radiation, dancing gnomes, dystopian factories and interplanetary oceans‘ says Farnan.
