TICKETS ON SALE FROM 9AM MONDAY 10TH AUGUST 2015
For the first time, the highly acclaimed One Electric Day event is spreading its wings to include Adelaide in 2015. After three consecutive years of selling out in Melbourne, organisers are taking the music festival – that is revered for its bill of Oz music royalty – on the road and South Australian audiences are the first to be involved in this growing event. The December festival will be headlined by John Farnham, with very special guests Daryl Braithwaite, The Black Sorrows, Russell Morris, Ross Wilson and Swanee who will take to the stage at Elder Park on the River Torrens for eight hours of jam-packed live entertainment.
The ONE ELECTRIC DAY project launched in Melbourne in 2013, selling out well in advance of the show date, and organisers expect the 2015 Adelaide concert to be no different. “I am excited to bring ONE ELECTRIC DAY to Adelaide for the first time, especially to such a magnificent venue as Elder Park,” says promoter Duane McDonald.
There is no doubt about it, John Farnham is the voice of the Australian music industry. Revered as one of the best male vocalists – by both fans and fellow musicians – he has had an incredibly versatile career. He took the hearts of the nation with his debut release Sadie the Cleaning Lady as Johnny Farnham in 1967. Fast forward to the 1980s and John Farnham become one of Australia’s favourite sons with an incredible string of smash hit albums. The 1986 album Whispering Jack was the first record to sell over a million copies in Australia and it’s chart topping single You’re The Voice cemented the honey toned solo artist as the ‘voice’ of the country.
Starting his career in the 1970s as the frontman for Sherbet, Daryl Braithwaite was crowned King of Pop and the band produced 20 national Top 40 singles. Songs like Howzat and Summer Love became ingrained in the national psyche. In the 1980’s Daryl set out on his own solo career, kicking off with the smash hit album Edge featuring singles such as OneSummer and As The Days Go By. His follow-up album Rise spawned the single The Horses, a song which never fails to get massive audience participation.
Another icon of Australian music, Joe Camilleri, will be bringing his legendary band The Black Sorrows to the 2015 line-up. An incredible songwriter, Joe penned some unforgettable hits with The Black Sorrows, from tracks like Harley & Rose, Dear Children, The Chosen Ones, Never Let Me Go and Chained to the Wheel to Hold On To Me and New Craze. More than 40 years after his breakthrough hit – the Molly Meldrum-produced psychedelic masterpiece, The Real Thing – Russell Morris has successfully reinvented himself as a superb bluesman. With iconic hits such as The Real Thing, Wings
of an Eagle, Sweet Sweet Love and The Girl That I Love, Russell of the country’s most recognisable singer-songwriters.
Ross Wilson really needs no introduction to music lovers. As the force behind bands such as Mondo Rock and Daddy Cool, he has been twice inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. The Daddy Cool classic Eagle Rock is one of the biggest rock hits to come out of Australia and other songs from the band such as Come Back Again are crowd favourites. Wilson has also had success as a solo artist and a prolific career as a songwriter, penning tracks that have been covered by a swag of artists. John ‘Swanee’ Swan has had a long and illustrious career. He’s been part of the Aussie industry since he was 14-years-old. With hits such as If I Were A Carpenter, Lady What’s Your Name and Temporary Heartache. He joined TheParty Boys in the mid-1980s and producing hits like He’s Gonna Step On You Again, Hold Your Head Up and Gloria.
ONE ELECTRIC DAY is destined to be one of the highlights on the South Australian music calendar this summer.
