The doors swing open at the new location for Cherry (68 Little Collins Street) on Thursday December 12th. To help see the move of our classic Soul night out of the basement and into an attic, we’re welcoming Soulsham to the Cherry stage!

This special collective made up of some of our towns finest players (members of The Bamboos, Saskwatch, GL and Jacky Winter and more!) are the perfect act to bring in the next chapter for Cherry. For almost twenty years it was a guarantee that with a late night visit to our old digs (we’re only a 400 metre walk from our beloved AC/DC Lane by the way) you’d be sure to find joyous conversation amongst Melbourne musicians over the occasional spilt drink. A tradition that’s bound to continue
Such late night creatures having the bright idea to form a group is how ‘Soulsham’ came into being. A band comprising members of The Bamboos, Saskwatch, GL and Jacky Winter (amongst others) with the sole purpose of playing some beloved tunes on a Thursday night, maybe once (very occasionally twice) a year.

It’s not all techno in Melbourne. Every Thursday for Soul in the Attic our resident DJ’s spin all things soul, funk, disco and classic 45’s ’til late! The new Cherry is located at 68 Little Collins Street. It might be the best rock n roll bar in town.

Press Club
Friday 13th December, 8pm
Press Club performing live on the Cherry stage!Entry to the show entitles you to stick around and party with no extra charge. We’re welcoming Press Club on Friday December 13th to help celebrate opening the new location (only 400 metres from our old digs) for Cherry! Press Club is the fuzz-addled, kicked-in speaker bass of Iain MacRae, the razor sharp guitar tones of Greg Rietwyk, the merciless drumming of Frank Lees, not to forget the emotionally charged vocal deliverance of Natalie Foster. With 2019 came the release of their second album Wasted Energy, a studio effort that not only attained some fair ARIA chart success for the four-piece out of Brunswick (it crash landed as high as #15 propelled by an ever growing fanbase) but was the catalyst to embark on their second assault of the UK and Europe, including performances at Reading and Leeds Festivals as well as Reeperbahn Festival! Fuelled by the buzz-saw guitars on single “Headwreck”, the album thrust the group into life on the Australian and European touring circuits and received high rotation at Australia’s triple j and Fbi radio. When you’ve paid entry to a show at the new Cherry, be our guest to party ’til close (Thursday that’s ’til late, Friday and Saturday right through ’til 7AM!). The new Cherry is located at 68 Little Collins Street. It might be the best rock n roll bar is town.

Badgers
Friday 13th December, 2am
(Technically Saturday Morning)

At our new address of 68 Little Collins Street (some may recall a bar called Pony?), Cherry is slightly different to our old basement. Now that we’re a two level venue (you can grab a drink in our parlour or duck up to the band room) we’re going to have special 2AM shows going forward!

For our first 2AM Friday night show at the new digs, catch BADGERS live on the Cherry stage! Fronted by local stalwart Michael Badger (producer/mixer for King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Amyl & The Sniffers, You Am I and more!), the group (Miranda Holt, Eloise Thetford and Dali Platt) recently released debut single “Make It Rain” as a sneak peek into their yet to be released debut LP. For live music punters who appreciate the paisley draped pop rock of the late ’60’s and just generally a great live band, this group is one to watch.

Now though this show is technically the Saturday morning, think of it like you’re still out from the night before

The new Cherry is located at 68 Little Collins Street. It might be the best rock n roll joint in town.

Also on the night, Cherry fav’ Two Headed Dog (with a 7” disc of their own to promote for “Fire Fire”) and exciting upstarts The Bone Shack! And when you’ve paid entry to a show at Cherry, be our guest to party ’til close (Thursday that’s ’til late, Friday and Saturday right through ’til 7AM!) for no extra charge. Originally formed way back in 1995 by Ian Collard (vocals, harmonica and guitar), it’s fair to call Collard, Greens and Gravy Aussie blues royalty. The three piece (with recent additions Sean Emmit on guitar and Jason Liu Soon on drums) continue to deliver audiences that gritty, down home-sound that they’re known for and play a repertoire of harmonica driven Chicago Blues. Think those legendary acts the likes of Little Walter, Jimmy Reed and Muddy Waters to name a few

Our weekly Cherry Blues is still free entry with doors now from 5PM and supervised children welcome. The new Cherry is located at 68 Little Collins Street. It might be the best rock n roll bar in town.
