Scene News: Lynn Ruth Miller – Not Dead Yet cabaret show Wed 24th – Sun 28th June, The Butterfly Club

Lynn Ruth Miller likes doing things her own way, and is a naturally vivacious, infectiously feisty and witty, woman. Born in Toledo Ohio USA, now resident of Brighton England, Lynn Ruth Miller has travelled a lot, enjoyed an enriched adventure-packed life, and is excited to be coming to Australian shores for the first time bringing her uniquely thought-provoking cabaret show – Not Dead Yet which will be featured as part of Melbourne Cabaret Festival. Lynn Ruth Miller has appeared on numerous stages worldwide from San Francisco, Rome, Moscow, Dublin and in the UK. But there’s something just a little unusual about her – she’s 81 years young.

Lynn Ruth is a self-confessed late-bloomer to the comedy and cabaret circuit, starting her comedy career when she hit 71 years old. Over the years she has also been an author, professor, newspaper columnist, and TV writer, and is currently the oldest performing stand up comedian on both sides of the Atlantic. She’s written 15 books, holds two Masters degrees (including one from Stanford), and even managed to make Simon Cowell laugh during her TV appearance on Britain’s Got Talent. With so many feathers to her cap, there’s not a lot she can’t do it would seem.

Observing Lynn Ruth Miller’s many YouTube appearances online makes you think that she’d just be nice to be around in that grandmotherly kind of way….except for one thing – she never sugar coats any- thing, is potty mouthed and has a strong opinion on most issues of life. She’s a bit legendary like that. Imagine Joan Rivers meets Phyllis Diller meets a sage advisory. You will do well in life if you take on her counsel.

Not Dead Yet, an exploration of the extraordinary world of Lynn Ruth Miller via stories and 5 songs and is bound to delight you, and hopefully make you reassess life’s goals and inspire you. Her self-deprecating humor, makes for an inclusive audience atmosphere and a night out with Lynn Ruth will make you feel like you’ve been given a warm hug but your head will be swarming with a brand new view of life and hopefully some new philosophies as well. In her own words ‘It’s my mission to dilute and obliterate the fear people have of aging…the way you age is a choice’…

Edfringe gave Not Dead Yet a 5 star rating stating “The stories are beautifully told with poignancy and humor with just a little tinge of sadness. A fascinating insight into the life of this charming and feisty lady who is very clearly “not dead yet”. This is a real treat and should not be missed.”

Lyn Ruth Miller has never been one to be told you can’t do that, and she has made a career out of it. She holds numerous awards for her many stage achievements including making it to Las Vegas in the top 20 in America’s Got Talent, 2008, won People’s Choice in 2009 Bran- son Comedy Festival, the finals in Bill Word’s Funniest Female Contest 2009 and semi-finals in the SF International Comedy Competition, the top 100 in Britain’s Got Talent and won both nights of the Texas Burlesque Festival without taking off anything that matters. And that’s just for starters.
