Legendary Aboriginal Rock/Reggae Act – NO FIXED ADDRESS play a double bill with Australia’s premier psychedelic rock masters – MADDER LAKE, celebrating 80 years of original OZ Rock from Mushroom Music.
35 years after the release of NO FIXED ADDRESS’ first album ‘From My Eyes’ and 45 years after MADDER LAKE and MUSHROOM RECORDS first Gold Single ‘Goodbye Lollipop’, these two bands join as a tour-de-force of OZ Rock, banding together to raise awareness and funds for the not-for-profit organisation ST KILDA ARTS COMMUNITY INC.
NO FIXED ADDRESS
Breaking ground NO FIXED ADDRESS (NFA) went starring and creating the soundtrack for AFI Award winning film and an album, Wrong Side of the Road, with fellow contemporary First Nations band US MOB, touring the length and breadth of the nation bringing their message of resistance and hope to young people in many outback and city communities.
NFA were inducted into the South Australian Hall of Fame late last year and are touring and playing their new and classic Aboriginal Rock/Reggae songs… ‘the best has become better and the new is amazing!…’ says TAGG Magazine. The band have also appeared many times on national television including ‘Countdown’ and more recently ‘The Mangrook Footy Show’.
St Kilda is the NFA’s spiritual home in Melbourne. Their first appearance in St Kilda was in 1980 upstairs at what is now called ‘Big Mouth’, (back then known as ‘Catherina Cabaret’). NFA also headlined a sellout show at the legendary 3am night club called ‘The Venue’ in 1982 with MEN AT WORK, GOANNA BAND and THE YOUNG HOMEBUYERS and in May 2017 they will play a double bill with psychedelic legends MADDER LAKE at St Kilda’s iconic MEMO Music Hall.

MADDER LAKE
In 1973 they launched Michael Gudinski’s, Mushroom Record Company into the big arena by winning them their first gold album for ‘Stillpoint’,on which you will find two of their biggest hit songs ‘Goodbye Lollipop’ and one of the most famous songs of all time in Oz ….. ’12lb Toothbrush’. This was followed in ’74 by their next big selling album ‘Butterfly Farm’ and ‘Best of Madder Lake’ in ’78. With various singles from each having done well in the charts at the time. Their albums have stood the test of time, and have recently been remastered, repackaged and re-released by Aztec records, currently selling not only in Australia, but worldwide today.
In 1974 they were approached by world renowned conductor David Measham, (whose famous works include Pete Townshends’ ‘Tommy’ and Rick Wakemans’ ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’), to compose a piece for rock band and symphony orchestra. Aldous Huxley’s ‘A Brave New World’, was chosen as the topic of the piece. Sadly David suffered a long illness and passed away, leaving an enormous body of work, yet to bring out of storage.
They were the headlining opening band at the first of the Sunbury Music Festivals and subsequently performed at all the Sunbury Festivals, including the year that the fabulous Freddie Mercury and Queen were booed off stage as the crowd called for Madder Lake! They supported The Rolling Stones at Kooyong, Manfred Mann and many other big international names through the years. In the past twelve months they headlined at the three ‘Rock of Ages’ shows presented by Aztec records at Crown Casino, where they did what they always do best……Leave the crowd screaming for MORE!
