JEFF The Brotherhood
AUSTRALIAN TOUR 2022
Having blown away crowds at other Australia festivals including Meredith and the last ever Big Day Out, brothers-in-rock Jake and Jamin Orrall – aka JEFF The Brotherhood – are firm favourites of Australian gig goers and will make something of a surprise return this year. With no new album in sight – last year’s great single ‘Garbage Man’ has been their only release since 2018’s Magick Songs – the brothers are coming back just because they love it here.
JEFF The Brotherhood is the project of brothers Jake and Jamin Orrall, and started in a basement in Nashville, TN in 2002. From their basement beginnings they have traced a journey that has taken them around the world several times over, from DIY shows and self-released albums to major label contracts, network television appearances and the international festival circuit.
“Come for the riffs, stay for the riffs.” – NPR
With an ever-morphing sound that combines souped-up but deconstructed garage and psych-rock with motorik rhythms and the avant-garde – as Pitchfork once said, the group has “retooled krautrock for Cameros, rendering classic-rock chug with Autobahn precision” – JEFF The Brotherhood remain kings of the riff while throwing out everything traditional and conservative about rock and coming up with something fresh and alive every time they create.
“While JEFF the Brotherhood hasn’t been releasing new music at the rate fans grew accustomed to in the 2000s and 2010s, it’s remained excellent. For instance, 2018’s Magick Songs is some of the Bogus Bros’ most inventive and exploratory work yet, with the lineup officially augmented by The Raconteurs’ “Little Jack” Lawrence and Silver Synthetic’s Kunal Prakash. “Garbage Man” and “Mountains” are a little closer to old-school JtB, but decidedly on the noisier end of the spectrum. The introductory text on Bandcamp describes the tracks as “two new destroyed rippers,” and that’s pretty spot-on.” – Nashville Scene.
