Scene News: Hoodoo Gurus 40th Anniversary Tour with very special guests The Dandy Warhols has been postponed

HOODOO GURUS
WITH THE DANDY WARHOLS
POSTPONE 40th ANNIVERSARY TOUR
Frontier Touring wish to advise that the Hoodoo Gurus 40th Anniversary Tourwith very special guests The Dandy Warhols is postponed.

Hoodoo Gurus drummer, Nik Rieth tested positive to COVID-19 on Wednesday 30 March and is now self-isolating.  With the band rehearsing together for the tour up until when Nik first experienced COVID symptoms, as a precaution and before The Dandy Warhols depart for Australia, for everyone’s safety the decision has been made to regrettably postpone the tour with rescheduled dates to be announced soon.

Dave Faulkner of Hoodoo Gurus says: “Just when you think you’ve seen it all! It goes without saying that we are devastated at this terrible turn of events. All four band members and our road crew are triple-vaccinated and we have been scrupulous in trying to avoid exposure to SARS-CoV-2 but, despite our best efforts, this sneaky virus got past our guard. It’s early days yet but Nik is currently doing well so we are hopeful he will make a speedy recovery. Brad, Rick and I are all still fit and healthy however it wouldn’t surprise us if one or all of us also turns out to be COVID-positive in the coming days. We spent several hours rehearsing together on Tuesday, the day before Nik started feeling unwell. As close contacts, we are all currently self-isolating as required by NSW Health guidelines.”

“We’ve been dreaming about doing this tour for so long that it’s especially heartbreaking to have come so close. Hopefully we and The Dandy Warhols can reschedule for later this year or, heaven help us all, early next year. We’ll let you know exactly when as soon as possible and full refunds will be available at that time for anyone who wants one but, as the saying goes, “good things come to those who wait” so please #keepyourtickets if you can. The Hoodoo Gurus have been going for 40 bloody years and after all this time we’ve learned not to worry – because we know that this too shall pass.”

Zia McCabe of The Dandy Warhols says: “All good things come to those who wait…and wait….and wait…I am as disappointed as I imagine everyone else is to hear we have to reschedule this tour yet again. I have to believe that the pent up energy that’s been building and building is going to explode into a truly massive concussion of rock and roll when we finally get to play these shows! Save your tickets friends, it will be worth the wait.”

Sahara Herald of Frontier Touring says: “As the Promoter of this very special tour, and a long standing friend and fan of both bands, I can attest to how gutted we all are to make this really difficult but necessary decision on the eve of what would have been a very successful tour. Rest assured the team at Frontier Touring are working hard with the Hoodoo Gurus, The Dandy Warhols plus openers, and all the impacted venues, to reschedule the dates as quickly as possible and bring you the good time we’d all been looking forward to, and really needed after a tough few years.”

All existing ticketholders will be notified of rescheduled dates via official ticketing agency and need not take action: original purchases will be valid for the rescheduled date without the need for exchange. We encourage you to #keepyourtickets

Hoodoo Gurus’ long-awaited new album Chariot of the Gods debuted at #7 on the ARIA Album Chart and #2 on the ARIA Australian Album Chart, making it the band’s highest charting studio album in over 28 years (!).

Chariot of the Gods is the band’s first album in twelve years, the longest interval between Hoodoo Gurus’ albums in their history.

***

“… the Gurus swing from melodic power-pop (My Imaginary Friend) to crunchy guitar rock (I Come from Your Future), and even sprinkle good ol’ psychedelia dust on the title track … This album captures some of that vintage Gurus energy and the mood on their earliest album, Stoneage Romeos” – The Age/SMH

There is a palpable air of excitement around Chariot Of The Gods, something singer Dave Faulkner has definitely noticed after speaking with journalists from around the world. “I’ve been doing heaps of interviews and all I can say is there is a lot of love for the Gurus everywhere right now. The reviews we’ve been getting for this one are the best we’ve ever had for any album in our career.”

Chariot of the Gods has not only been embraced here in Australia, it’s also made its way across the Pacific to the ears of the legendary Steven Van Zandt who hand-picked the Brad Shepherdpenned track, “Equinox”, for his Little Steven’s Coolest Songs in the World Sirius XM Satellite radio show throughout March. Little Steven’s Underground Garage is easily the most popular and influential radio channel for cutting edge rock in the USA.

Brad shared some background on the track, “Equinox is a song I wrote for my wife, venerating symmetry and destiny. She’s from the US and back home her default radio station has long been Little Steven’s Underground Garage (LSUG), a station that has been quite supportive of the Gurus over the years. Indeed, the two of us have occasionally been ambushed on road trips by the odd Gurus tune.

“Understanding that it was theoretically possible, it became a fantasy of mine that she might one day jump in the car to find Equinox on the radio and the soundtrack to a sun-kissed afternoon.

“With this tune now being programmed for LSUG’s Coolest Songs In The World, it appears my far-fetched fantasy might very well come true.”

“The first Hoodoo Gurus album in 12 years starts with a scene-setter called Early Opener. It’s as if the Gurus are sound-checking at your local pub: the drums are pounding, the guitars are cranking, the hooks are huge…”
– Stack Magazine

“First album in 12 years from Australian national treasures … ’Chariot of the Gods’ is a delightful recap of the Gurus’ virtues, featuring such effortlessly breezy, riff-heavy tear-ups as “Get Out Of Dodge” and “Equinox”, while “Was I Supposed To Care?” demonstrates that Dave Faulkner retains his facility with a plain-spoken ballad that dates all the way back to the first album’s “My Girl””
– Uncut Magazine (UK)

“Hoodoo Gurus goes on the attack, sword in hand, and slays the competition. …Hoodoo Gurus cheekily defies the challenge of the passing years”
– Muzzart (France)

“The new album features some career bests from a rejuvenated band, with the emphasis on the tunes” – Shindig (UK)

Chariot of the Gods is classic Gurus – 14 tracks (17 on the deluxe double-vinyl edition, including vinyl-only Dylan and Lennon & McCartney covers!) featuring the relatable lyricism and peerless songwriting placed in a distinctively Australian context that the band are renowned for (see below for tracklisting). The album is the first full-length recording with relative new recruit to the Hoodoo Gurus’ line-up, on drums – Nik Reith.
