After rave reviews for a series of sold-out dinner shows in late 2014 and 2015, Ding Dong Lounge is pleased to announce that Brian and The Ding Dong Allstars … Peter Luscombe, Mark Ferrie, Garry Gray, Bruce Haymes, Ashley Naylor, Vika and Linda Bull and Matt Walker … are set to return to one of their favourite Melbourne venues with a brand new show … on Sunday August 16.
A little background … in the late 60s, a landmark counterculture film called ‘Easy Rider’ smashed box-office records and became one America’s most loved and influential movies. ‘Easy Rider’ follows two hippies riding motorcycles across the American Southwest to the Mardi Gras in New Orleans, backed by an uncompromising rock soundtrack. Director Dennis Hopper picked songs he’d heard on the radio in 1968 and editor Donn Cambern used music from his own record collection to make watching hours of bike footage more interesting during editing. ‘Born to Be Wild’ by Steppenwolf, ‘The Weight’ by The Band, Jimi Hendrix’s ‘If 6 was 9’, ‘Wasn’t Born To Follow’ by The Byrds all feature, along with Bob Dylan‘s ‘It’s Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)’, ‘Don’t Bogart (That Joint)’ and ‘The Ballad of Easy Rider’, co-written by Roger McGuinn and Dylan.
Introduced with flair and a few road stories by the host, MC and maître D Brian Nankervis, The Ding Dong Allstars will perform the soundtrack in its entirety in the first set of the evening. After a short break, Brian and the band will return for a longer set of songs from other ‘outsider movies’ … films made in the late 60s and early 70s in the spirit of ‘Easy Rider’. Movies like ‘Midnight Cowboy’, ‘O Lucky Man’, ‘Shaft’, ‘Morning Of The Earth’ ‘Gimme Shelter’, ‘Woodstock’ and more … all films with incredible soundtracks and iconic songs.
So … join the flamboyant Nankervis and the stunning Ding Dong All Stars for an exciting evening of music, memories, dancing AND …
… incredible food from the famous Ding Dong Lounge Gris Gris kitchen. Enjoy three courses of southern flavoured, classic home-style cooking. Let head chef (and New Orleans native) Chris Weysham astound you with his favourite Cajun and Creole dishes … including Chargrilled Oysters with Bacon Creole Mustard Cream Sauce, Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya, Turbodog Braised Short Ribs, Root Vegetable Creole and many more.
Don’t miss this very special show … book now because it will sell out!
