Scene News: Allah-Las (US) announce their first Australian Tour this May

Strange Yonder and Contrary announce a 2nd Melbourne show for LA’s treasured melancholic garage rock band, the AllahLas. After selling out their first Melbourne show within just 3 days, fans have shown that they have been eagerly anticipating the band’s first trip down under for a very long time.

Don’t miss out this time. 2nd Melbourne show Saturday 20th May at The Curtin on sale now.

Reaching Australian shores for the first time in May, the band will also perform shows in Brisbane, Byron Bay, Gold Coast, and Sydney.

AllahLas have released the new track, “Hereafter,” and an alternate take of the single “Autumn Dawn”, out February 17th on Mexican Summer.

The band was formed in 2008 while three of the members were working at the legendary Amoeba Music record store. Their 2011 self-titled debut was nominated for independent album of the year by the A2IM Libbys.

In 2014, their sophomore LP Worship The Sun received critical acclaim from The Los Angeles Times who said the album “…lets the band’s trippy vintage rock absorb all sorts of new Southern California influences. Latin drumming, L.A.’s midcentury avant-garde beach culture and Laurel Canyon harmonies.”

Third album, 2016’s Calico Review was recorded in Los Angeles’ historic Valentine Recording Studio. For the album, AllahLasexperiment with new instrumentation adding violin, harpsichord and Mellotron to their sound. The twelve tracks on Calico Review demonstrate how the group has pivoted from focusing on specific influences to crafting songs that reflect their own feelings of freedom, grit and melancholy.

On the road the band, has built a dedicated following with extensive, sold-out tours and high profile festival dates throughout North, Central, and South America, Europe, South Africa, Russia, Mexico and Israel, with a recently announced appearance at Coachella 2017.

“Cramming as much guts and passion as possible into three and a half minutes or  less—while burning it’s own path, with brooding, lonesome songs, tightly restrained  surf inflected musings on girls and freedom.” – The New Yorker

“Los Angeles garage-rock gurus AllahLas tap into an alternate reality where the world  is but a California dream.” – SPIN
