Atlanta’s garage-rock provocateurs Black Lipshave announced the supports for their first Australian tour in eight years, which is kicking off in Melbourne on Friday 3 March.
Gut Health, The Maggie Pills, Los Scallywaggsand GHOULIES are just a few names joining the band on the tour, hitting up venues in Wollongong, Sydney and Brisbane and Fremantle. A full list of supports can be found below.
Since their last visit eight years ago, the notorious rock’n’roll outfit has undergone a momentous transformation in both musical style and lineup.
Their latest offering, this year’s critically acclaimed LP Apocalypse Love signalled a new era for the shape-shifting outfit, catapulting the band out of the garage where their original sound was carved and mutating into a radical new rock’n’roll monument.
With sounds emanating from a dive bar jukebox lit up in the back of your mind, with a playlist bending between tub-thumping doom-glam, Plastic Ono singalongs, cocktail-shaken space age pop, estranged honky tonk, and lo-fi outsider acoustic-punk, with mariachi horns, theremins, drum machines and real harmonies filtered through infectious melodies, Apocalypse Love underscores a bombastic new direction for the band, yet manages to retain their rebellious, oddball and unhinged charm.
Tickets to Black Lips’ Australian tour are on sale now.
