Snap Scene: Melbourne Music Week launch, Queens Hall State Library of Victoria, 4th October 2016

Back for its seventh year, Melbourne Music Week (MMW) today announced its full 2016 program, which will transform the city into a playground of sights, sounds and sensory escapades from 11-19 November.

Owned and delivered by City of Melbourne, MMW will captivate the city with a nine day program dedicated to illuminating the city’s robust, world-renowned music scene.

For nine days and nights, MMW will pry open abandoned doors, activate laneways, light up the silver screen and shake up the dance floor at some of Melbourne’s most iconic and unexpected venues. The historic State Library Victoria has already been announced as MMW’s Hub for 2016, with its original reading room, Queen’s Hall, set to host many of MMW’s marquee performances and acting as the main performance space. The domed La Trobe Reading Room will also play host to performances and events, and each day of MMW, the State Library’s famous forecourt will host free all ages performances, DJ sets and fresh food offerings.

Alongside an electric line-up of local and international acts, MMW’s 2016 program will also feature a range of industry events, exhibitions, workshops, panel discussions and more. From Swedish avant-hip- hop sensation Elliphant to New Zealand hard rockers Shihad, along with seminal Australian industrial act Severed Heads and the immersive audio-visual brilliance of France’s NONOTAK, MMW’s 2016 program delivers on the diversity Melbourne music lovers have been asking for.
