Scene News: Aunty Donna – New Show

After a year of wins, Melbourne sketch comedy trio Aunty Donna are bringing a brand new show to Adelaide Fringe in 2016.

Described as a “glorious crossbreed of The Mighty Boosh and Flight of the Conchords” (Broadway Baby), Aunty Donna has had a big 2015. From sell out shows here and overseas, to a comedy pilot on ABC iview and a funded 10-part YouTube web series, Ballarat drama school friends – Broden Kelly, Zachary Ruane and Mark Samual Bonanno – aren’t letting the grass grow under their feet.

They sold out their 2015 season at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and followed suit in the UK, selling out both their London Soho Theatre season, as well as 13-performances at just their second Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Aunty Donna also made their BBC debut while in the UK, performing live on BBC Radio 4, the breeding ground for Flight of the Conchords and The Mighty Boosh.

The troupe’s comedy half-hour pilot was selected as one of five for online portal ABC iview as part of its Fresh Blood ABC

TV/Screen Australia series, which will see one commissioned to produce their own ABC iView series. Similarly, AD was one of five recipients of funding to make a 10-part sketch series – 1999 – for YouTube under the Google and Screen Australia Skip Ahead initiative in late 2015. Their YouTube channel currently has 70,970 subscribers and has received over 7 million views to date.

If you like your comedy subversive, hyperactive, witty and fast you’ll love Aunty Donna. Don’t miss them.
