Star Scene: Waclaw “Vogg” Kieltyka

Article by Mary Boukouvalas

Decapitated’s guitarist, founder and composer Waclaw “Vogg” Kieltyka says his scene is simply “playing metal and spending time with [his] family”.

Formed in 1996, Polish Tech Death masters Decapitated built a reputation over the years as one of the international leaders of their genre. Vogg says “In 1996, I was 15, and my brother whDecapaitatedo plays the drums, was 12, so it was kind of weird for my parents to have two teenagers wearing black clothes and listening to metal. For me for playing guitar and a metal fan, the influences were from other metal bands, the typical influences for a young metal fan, Slayer, Metallica, for me death metal band Cannibal Corpse. I was always influenced by death metal band from Poland, Vader; they were my main influence. And of course, classic metal bands: Sepultura, Metallica, Exodus”.

Over their near 20-year career, Decapitated has released six studio albums, which are considered to be some of the most influential death metal releases of the 21st century. Describing Decapitated’s music, Vogg says: “Decapitated music is to keep the energy, release the energy, and keep the energy going. Especially when people come to our show, we try to heal them with our sound. I always try to deliver the most extreme and heavy sound, but in a positive way – we are not an evil band – we concentrate more on the music rather than the lyrics. We concentrate on the music and the energy to make people feel better.

Even when the music sounds dark and sounds heavy, it is still all positive. I can see the faces of the people. It’s positive adrenalin.

The last two albums are about imageHumanity, about all the mistakes the humans make, that we still make, wars and the fighting, and we don’t want to learn. There’s always someone doing some evil shit, we don’t change. Cash and power. I don’t say anything new.”

Decapitated’s latest album “Blood Mantra” was released on September 26, 2014 via Nuclear Blast and they’re bringing it to Australia soon. Vogg says: “I am really excited to come back again to Australia. I’m really excited especially to play with Suffocation; they’re a great metal band. I cannot wait. We are better now. We play better than we played four years ago. People will be satisfied, I’m sure”.
