Cult serial podcast WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE’s debut Australian tour has just expanded with an extra show added in Melbourne and a venue shift in Brisbane to accommodate the demand for tickets to its live incarnation performances.
Melbourne will now have a second, late show at 9.30pm AEDT on Saturday, February 13, while the Brisbane show on Monday, February 8 will move from the Tivoli to QPAC to accommodate the demand for more seats.
Tickets for the extra Melbourne show and the new Brisbane venue will go on sale at 10am AEDT Friday, November 6.
The Australian tour will see the WTNV cast performing a never-before-released episode of the wildly popular podcast written specifically for the stage starring Cecil Baldwin with live musical accompaniment by Disparition and featuring Dessa as ‘The Weather’.
Welcome to Night Vale is a twice-monthly serial podcast that has developed a loyal and dedicated following since its inception in 2012. Written by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor, it brings its listeners stories from the strange desert town of Night Vale in the form of a community radio show hosted by Cecil Palmer (played by Cecil Baldwin).
It is a rich and nuanced drama complete with local news, announcements from the Sheriff’s Secret Police, mysterious lights in the night sky, dark-hooded figures with unknowable powers, and cultural events. Welcome to Night Vale has become one of the most popular podcasts in the world while remaining fiercely independent, entirely listener supported, and ad-free.
The live show began touring in 2013 complete with guest stars and Cecil himself performing previously unheard scripts that complement and enhance the constantly evolving narrative of the podcast, while still remaining funny and compelling for brand new listeners. They have played sold out shows in more than eleven countries and recently completed a 41-date US tour.
Don’t miss this incredibly unique form of theatre when it tours Australia for the very first time in February.
