Scene News: Essie Holt – Unveils Accompanying Music Video For Debut Single ‘Underwater’

After releasing her warmly received debut single ‘Underwater’, Melbourne-based indie-pop artist, Essie Holt, has just revealed the accompanying music video – directed by Tegan Crowley (Drifters Productions), filmed by Bonnie Moir and edited by Sarah Jo Fraser.

Shot in the picturesque coastal town of Barwon Heads, Victoria, the clip features the songstress herself performing and dancing in a collection of stunning attire that was provided by local independent fashion designers EWOL, Grace Willow the Label and Verner.

Since the release of ‘Underwater’, the track has picked up considerable support from the likes of triple j Unearthed, Australian community radio, worldwide taste maker blogs and Spotify via their ‘New Music Friday’ and ‘Fresh Finds: Six Strings’ play lists. Holt and her band also recently performed two capacity launch shows in Melbourne and Sydney.

Produced by Joel Quartermain (Meg Mac, Dustin Tebbutt), with additional production and mixing by Dave Hammer (Washington, Thundamentals, Nicole Millar), ‘Underwater’ is a meticulously crafted slice of indie-pop, taking cues from the likes of Lykke Li, St. Vincent and Banks.

Opening with beautifully layered melancholy vocals, the track ascends into its soaring chorus, driven by the songstress’ infectious melodies and aptly composed instrumentals, which navigate dynamics and structure effortlessly.

In 2018, Holt plans to continue releasing more music and playing live shows.
