Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?
From the last release “Haunted” Witchgrinder went through line up changes and i since then had been working on new material for a third album. Because last year concentrated on getting the perfect line up together and touring with it as much as i could it started to slow down the album process. At the start of 2017 we realised that we wouldn’t have a full album written and recorded until early 2018 so instead of taking a song from the album we decided to write a single, record it and release it so the fans had something to enjoy while they waited.
It was a very fun process making this song as we did not have to over think it as in terms if it would blend with the rest of the album and other things like that. We pretty much wrote it in a few weeks then went into record it and made a cool film clip to go with it.
It has the same feel as any Witchgrinder song but we did try a lot of new ideas on it that you will see later on in our album next year.
The songs title is they walk among us, which has a number of meanings to it. I don’t want to spoil too much but when writing the lyrics i made sure that it would keep the listener interested and give them a chance to come up with there own story of who or what it is that is walking among us.
What’s your favourite work at this point in time?
I have enjoyed the whole journey of this band. The music from the start has grown and changed slightly over the years so its hard to pin what is my favourite song. I really enjoy when i have finished a song and i get to make a film clip to it. The whole process is long but once you have it all recorded and a clip to watch along to it i always feel happy and excited that a small idea to start with has been built in to something so big that im proud of.
How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
That’s a spicy meatball… Hard question that one. Its definitely got some kick to it so anything spicy I guess.
Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.
The first story that pops into my head is the cow game.. I don’t know why. I forget who made it up or where it come from but the rules to the game are while driving on tour each person gets a go at yelling as loud as you can out the window when passing a paddock full of cows. Whoever gets the most cows to turn their head and look up wins. Hahaha.. sounds stupid but when you are stuck in a car for hour and hours, it does kill the time.
What, or who, inspires you?
The older I get, I find it’s my father. He always looks at things with a go get them attitude and reminds me not to hold back when working on my music or just things in general. He is always my harshest critic too. If he hears something i write and doesn’t like it he will not sugar coat it he just comes out and says “That’s shit, Start again” As much as this annoys me a lot of the time (not all the time) he is right. I think anyone who is giving it a good go being creative and not giving up on their dreams inspire me heaps.
Which song do you wish you wrote?
I don’t think I could choose, there are so many great songs out there. It would be the same if I wrote it.
What’s next for you?
For the next six months and more I will be working on finishing the new album and touring around Australia (Mostly Capital Cities) Once that has ended i will just be sticking to getting ready for the new album to come out. Things will be busy as always but that’s the way I like it. I have a few other side projects to release while all this is going on so there will be plenty of music to listen too.
What’s My Scene?
My scene is small dirty rock bars where there is plenty of booze and loud live bands.
