Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?
We had a New Years show booked in Byron Bay and being from Perth that’s a mission, so as any enthusiastically-thirsty young band would do, we turned it into a tour. ‘Old News For New People – High Visceral (B-Sides)’ was never really meant to happen. We spoke to 123 Agency about the idea of the tour surrounding a theme and given our optimistic and ambitious nature, we thought we’d give another album a crack. All the songs are old ideas that didn’t fit on the last two records (hence the B-Sides), not because they weren’t interesting enough or crumpet-esque but because part 1 & 2 already had a personality which seemed awkward if we tried to rearrange it. The B-Sides however seem to flow
together really well which was a serendipitous stroke of luck. It’s a refreshing way to cap off the High Visceral series and move onto a bigger project in 2018.

What’s your favourite work at this point in time?
For both parts 1 & 2 I realmed myself into a comfy little writing nest. The first album in the barn and the second in a kitchen of a share house I was looking after a friend for. Every song feels like a child really (although I have no comparison for that statement), but for all those hundreds of hours I piled up listening to every kick drum, guitar twang, bass line and vocal melody, it’s hard not to attach yourself to the tracks nuances and individuality. I really enjoyed working on Denmark if I had to pick a song as it’s set in a moment I’d like to remember for a long time.

Tell us a quick, on the road or studio, anecdote.
While we were recording drums at Blackbird Studio, Dave Parkin was explaining to us the extent of his gear, who he’s recorded and how it’s taken years of hunting and persistence to afford one of the mics he had surrounding the kit. We were in awe of the man. About 10 seconds later Danny (our drummer) knocks the mic stand over containing the said expensive mic and it made the loudest, most clear bang being centered in a recoding studio. I let out one of those blurt
laughs like you do when your friend gets seriously injured before you realise the severity of the situation. Luckily it didn’t break too badly and Dave just chose to be a good guy, we had to spend the next 6 days with him after that initial flash of clumsiness but you could tell he wanted to kill Danny.

What, or who, inspires you?
Trees, life, Space, people (recently David Foster Wallace), Wes Anderson, The Mighty Boosh, someones quirky vision of the future, personal triumphs, the old man accross the street who does his gardening with a wheely bottle of oxygen, a fresh sheet of paper, someone I’ve never met and converse on a completely new topic with, electricity, Ancient Egypt, quotes from dead people, an open field, a good game of connect four, the 2005 ashes series and Kieth Richards impressive drug consuming abilities.

Which song do you wish you wrote?
Sleep – Dopesmoker

What’s next for you?
Dr. Noggin-Floggin & The Cosmic Toothbrush festival and an Australian tour for the release of our new album ‘Old News For New People – High Visceral (B-Sides)’.

What’s your scene?
At the moment it’s a computer. To my immediate right there’s a 1920’s style window-frame that looks out to my front garden and the below par scorched remains of our once beautiful poppies. My perfect scene would be an endless green field surrounded by clumps of oak trees, a stream of Seirra Nevada Pale Ale that’s current I can float down in an inflatable duck who sings all my favourite songs, I have partial dimentia so he plays Mild High Club over and over like I’m hearing it for the first time again, a pouch of port royal, a few mates discussing future predictions, a 5 o’clock unsettable summer sun at a faultless 25 degrees on our backs and an emotive index of 50% excitement, 30% peaceful, 10% euphoric, 10% strange, 110% drunk.

How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
Surely it has to be a crumpet? A psychedelic porn one.

About the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets

Since forming in 2015 Perth natives Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have had a head spinningly busy 18 months.

Not only have the psyche rockers dropped two head rattling LP’s, ‘High Visceral’ Part One and Part Two to rave reviews “Entrancing, mind altering, and a breath of fresh air. Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are revitalising the Psych Rock genre one riff at a time”. Happy “Truly brilliant, intricate guitar riffs, great percussion and mesmerising vocals 9/10.” Xpress. They have sold out both national tours and supported the likes of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, The Murlocs, Dune Rats, Black Mountain, and Skeggs.

Renowned for their crowd surfing inducing, mosh pit embracing live show as best described by The Music “The bands overpowering energy fractures the boundaries of logic & sound”. The four piece have announced a national tour including Psychedelic Porn Crumpets curated festival ‘Dr Noggin Floggin and the Cosmic Toothbrush’ which brings together 12 blisteringly awesome local bands.”Perth has a ridiculous amount of local talent that putting on a ‘psych’ gig felt like we would be leaving out the strong character and diversity of the Perth music scene. The idea of the festival was to showcase the vibrance of Perth and invite the listener into a broader range of music they may not usually go out and see”. Psychedelic Porn Crumpets

And just because sleep is for the weak the band has announced the impending release of ‘High Visceral’ B-Side vinyl. The first single to drop via the band’s label What Reality Records is outta this world fuzz banger ‘Little Moon’.  Slowly increasing in intensity and pace, the guitars in ‘Little Moon’ add layers of fuzz, reverb and wailing amps to the explosive nature and constant changes in rhythmical patterns, vocal textures and chord structures. “The idea of the track was based around the opening riff. I wanted to write a modulating verse that increased in tempo that made the song always feel like it was constantly rising. I wrote so many alternate parts that had the initial song around 10 minutes that we eventually compressed into 3:30” Psychedelic Porn Crumpets
