Tell us about your new single/ album/ tour?
I’ve just released ‘My Romantic’ which is the second track off my Debut EP ‘Take A Walk’ that’s been out since last October. With first single ‘I Will Be’ gaining rotation on Double J, the EP is doing really well and I’m just trying to keep up the momentum! Mainly playing shows around Sydney, I’m also enjoying getting back into writing after the craziness of releasing music independently.
Here’s the film clip for ‘My Romantic’! 2 minutes and 47 seconds of my take on what I think living in the moment looks and sounds like!
How would you describe your sound in food form and why?
I once thought my guitarist and I were going to die in a rainstorm on our way to Tamworth
Which song resonates most strongly and why?
I think it would have to be ‘I Will Be’. Its been received as the favourite and was always one of mine. I do enjoy repetition, and it think it’s got just the right amount of romance. I love that I was able to use a male backing vocal and a horn arrangement, and the instrumentation and production qualities are exactly how I envisioned them to be.
Any on the road anecdotes?
I once thought my guitarist and I were going to die in a rainstorm on our way to Tamworth. Does that count?
Where do you draw inspiration from?
It’s a subconscious thing I think. When i want to write, I usually sit on my bed, start playing guitar, and then see what comes out. In general, it seems to stem from my life and then the close people around me’s lives.
What’s next for you?
Gigs and more writing! And hopefully recording another single and EP toward the end of the year. Just planned a small trip to the US in June/July, so that’ll be fun. Be great to suss out the music scene and get inspired.
What’s your scene?
Ultimately, a small warm rustic space filled with lovely people, live music, arts, antipasti platters and quality wine, or tea.
About Lisa Caruso
Caruso’s voice and style of songwriting is often compared to an impassioned Edith Piaf, the dream state of Mazzy Star, and of having the guts of Martha Wainwright. Known for delivering powerful love-lorn vocals that complement heart on sleeve lyrics, ‘Take A Walk’ is the perfect entry point to Caruso’s music, with beautiful production flourishes never getting in the way of the actual songs themselves.
The wistful collection skips through Spektor-inspired widescreen pop, Greenwich-Village folk, and sees tunes that could sit comfortably on playlists between Feist and Cat Power. Receiving rotation on Double J for her first single ‘I Will Be’. Second single ‘My Romantic’ is now set for release with a fresh new clip and new racing identity.
