Q&A Scene: Laura Dunemann for Comedy 4 Karma

Tell us about any new show you would like to plug?

I’m always gigging around Melbourne, I love the city’s comedy scene. You can be out any night of the week and see new, fresh stand up comedy and to be a part of that is fantastic. But I am really excited to come up to Daylesford for Comedy 4 Karma, what a awesome way to support the school as well as have an fun night out. Daylesford has so much happening in terms of the arts so I’m really excited to be involved!

What’s your favourite comedy show in all history?

Check out a British comedy called ‘Nighty Night’. It’s twisted and wrong but so good.

Tell us a quick, on the road/gig anecdote…

I once burped into a microphone…by accident. Sorry.

What, or who, inspires you?

Anyone going out of their comfort zone!

Which song do you wish you wrote?
‘Wuthering Heights’ – Kate Bush

How would you describe your comedy in food form and why?

Vermicilli Noodles because they run from one into the other, like a long tangent. Also, I just had some for lunch!

What’s next for you?

More writing and gigging as much as I can. Hopefully a little bit of travel too. Daylesford is a fantastic start!

What’s your scene?

My apartment, with fantastic heating in the winter, a huge stove to cook soup and plants all around me. I’m on the 3rdfloor with treetops all around so I call it ‘The Treehouse’.

About Comedy 4 Karma

Comedy 4 Karma, the annual fundraiser for the Daylesford Dharma School on Saturday 16th September at Daylesford Town Hall is set to host a stellar bill of comedians including Bob Franklin, and MC Dave Callan, plus more to be announced soon.

Following a wildly successful third annual Comedy 4 Karma fundraiser last year, where raising over $15,000, this year’s event raises funds for the school’s upkeep and admin costs and will feature some of Australia’s most popular comics, all generously donating their time for free for this good cause.

Bob Franklin will take to the Comedy For Karma stage for the first time ever and will provide laughs aplenty with his special brand of stand-up comedy. Not a stranger to our screens (The Craic, The Extra, Bad Eggs, Boy Town, Beneath Hill 60, Shaun Micallef’s World Around
Him, The Micallef P(r)ogram(me), Stupid, Stupid Man, The Librarians, The Adventures of Lano & Woodley and Thank God You’re Here), he has also published a book of poetry. He made his break as Jimeoin’s comedy mate and is most well known from Jimeoin & Bob’s Cooking Show.

MCing the event will be the ever-delightful Dave Callan. Irish born star of Triple J radio and original Rove cast member Dave is also recognisable from his appearances on Spicks and Specks, The Comedy Festival Gala and The Adventures of the Good News Week. He is currently a regular on Good Game on ABC 2. He has per- formed at the Edinburgh Festival and toured Britain, South East Asia, the U.S. and his adopted home of Australia.

Providing pre-event warm up tunes for the audience before the laughs begin, will be much loved local act Ari & Rhiannon. Punters will be treated with their sassy tunes whilst
grabbing the opportunity to nourish their souls and bellies with great wholesome local food via the food truck and bid on the Silent Auction featuring excellent locally sourced items.

Comedy 4 Karma is an important and much needed annual fundraiser for the Daylesford Dharma School (currently Australia’s only Buddhist primary school and one of only
three schools of its kind in the world). The school began in 2009 with 15 students, and has over 60 students enrolled in 2017. The school continues to grow in size and reputation.
