w/ special guests Kelly Auty & Andrea Lees
Melbourne ’60s music specialists, The Substitutes, have previously brought you the Giants of ’60s British, US and Australian rock music but now, for the very first time, they will focus on the great female singers and bands of the period. To pull this off they have joined forces with acclaimed R&B/Soul singer KELLY AUTY and again enlisted the help of the versatile and vivacious ANDREA LEES.
Kelly Auty is a regular at Australian blues and folk festivals, and has also written and regularly performs the Wild Women Show, an impeccably researched, beautifully costumed and passionately performed show that transports the listener back in time. The Wild Women Show travels from 1920 to 1970, through uplifting stories, costumes and songs by Bessie Smith, Ida Cox, Billie Holiday, Eartha Kitt, Josephine Baker, Edith Piaf, Peggy Lee, Ida Lupino, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner and Janis Joplin.
Andrea Lees is the daughter of renowned Australian singer Ron Lees and her singing career spans two decades. She has starred in cabaret, television, musical theatre and much more, plus supported leading stars such as Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston, Jimmy Barnes, Helen Shapiro, Bon Jovi, Colleen Hewitt, Alison Durbin, Marcia Hines, The Four Kinsmen, Michael Bolton and many others.
